Dean is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow who joined Gareth’s MMRG in 2018. His extensive experience in histology and animal work were valuable skills required by the group.
Since being awarded his PhD in 2012 from the School of Biosciences here at the University of Birmingham, Dean has worked in the IBR. His first post was with Gareth, where his research focused on the effects of hepatic glucocorticoid re-activation in a mouse model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Following this, Dean joined Prof Martin Hewison’s vitamin D group and was involved with several projects pertaining to the immuno-modulatory effects of the vitamin. In 2018 Dean re-joined Gareth’s group, where his extensive experience in IHC and gene expression analysis was utilised for ongoing projects within the group.
Although Dean has recently been appointed Lab Manager for Prof Andrew Beggs’ group, he very much remains in close professional contact with Gareth and his research group.
